The Academic department of Mining Hydraulic Engineering was founded in 1951 and is one of the oldest departments of the faculty. In the development of the department, the Honored Inventor of the Kyrgyz Republic, Academician of the KR National Academy of Sciences Ya.V. Bochkarev, who headed the department for more than 20 years, played a big role. In different periods, well-known scientists worked at the department: Academician of the KR National Academy of Sciences E.E. Makovsky, Corresponding Members of the KR National Academy of Sciences M.N. Bolshakov and V.A. Rozhnov, the KR Honored Worker of Science, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor N.P. Lavrov, Doctors of Technical Sciences B. Zhumabaev and B.I. Melnikov. During 2005 – 2021 the department was headed by candidate of technical sciences, associate professor R.S. Bekboeva, author of more than 80 inventions in the field of hydraulic engineering, veteran of the department with 42 years of work experience.
Currently, the department is headed by a candidate of technical sciences and acting Associate Professor Zh. A. Bayalieva. Associate professors K.J. Ismailova, K.K. Abdygaziev, senior lecturers B.A. Botokanova, A.K. Zhamangapova, N.U. Kayipova, assistant U.K. Nurudinov and engineer M. Joldosheva work at the department.
The mission of the department is to train highly qualified specialists and scientific personnel able to withstand competition in the labor market, who have deep knowledge and professional skills for activities in the construction and operation of hydroelectric power stations, water storage reservoirs, tailings of mining enterprises and other hydraulic structures, roads, and bridges.
The department graduates bachelors in the field of “Construction”, specialty “Hydraulic construction”, as well as masters in the master’s program “Hydraulic structures”.
The need for hydraulic engineers is very great not only in the Kyrgyz Republic, but throughout the world: for irrigated agriculture, hydropower, construction of new and rehabilitation of existing dikes, dams, water intakes and other hydraulic structures.
A graduate of the department can be employed in the construction and operation of hydroelectric power stations, reservoirs, tailings of mining enterprises and other hydraulic structures, roads and bridges, as well as in the structures of state bodies: the Water Resources Service of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Natural Resources, environment and technical supervision, the State Agency for Architecture, Construction and Housing and Communal Services, as well as municipal government.
The department conducts scientific research work on stability, strength, development of new designs and hydraulic automation of hydraulic structures. The results of scientific research carried out by the staff and students of the department were awarded with diplomas, certificates, patents and were widely introduced into production, of which more than 40 hydraulic automatic water level regulators, 2 mining automated water intake hydroelectric facilities, more than 20 automated water distribution and waste facilities. Over the past 10 years, the department has received 36 patents of the Kyrgyz Republic for an invention.
Since the founding of the department, 6 doctoral and more than 50 master’s theses have been advanced. Postgraduate students and scientists from France, China, Vietnam, the republics of Central Asia and Kazakhstan have received training hosted by the department in different years.
To conduct educational activities, the department has the necessary educational and technical base. The department has many laboratories and classrooms in which laboratory and practical classes are held, as well as research work of undergraduates and graduate students: the laboratory of hydraulics and hydrotechnical structures, the laboratory of pumps and pumping stations, the laboratory of building materials and soil mechanics, the study room of building structures, equipped with installations, layouts, and instruments.
